The scouts had an evening as rocket engineers on Friday, with patrols building and then firing water-powered rockets.
Each patrol built three rockets and then competed on accuracy (the target was a paddling pool) and distance. In the event the competitions were forgotten in the rush to fire their rockets. Some of the rockets travelled over 60m (and off into the woods) – I think we will be finding them over the coming months as we do tree work. Continue reading Rockets Away!

The group has also received a nice write-up in the summer parish magazine. See the Saint John the Baptist website
You can now track the Group’s geocaching activity directly from the web-site.
The page is under Scouts on the main menu /scouts/geocaching/
Here is the June Newslink – which features us quite extensively 🙂

This year we were blessed with some fantastic weather for camp. The programme included the ShelterBox challenge for the cubs and scouts, and a visit to Chislehurst Caves for the beavers. Continue reading Group Camp 2013 [updated 3x]
The group supported this year’s Greatness Big Lunch run by The Greatness Residents Association. We ran three stalls -a 3m scramble net, a slippery pole and a wellie-wanging competition.
As you can see from the photo, even the mayor tried his hand at the wellie throw – although 10.4m wasn’t enough to get him into the top 3.
Three of our scouts were presented with awards by Tim Kidd, Chief Commissioner of England at a ceremony in Maidstone last night.
Riana Taylor and Elizabeth Dreksler received their Chief Scouts Gold Awards and Kelly Williams received her Bronze Volunteering Award alongside 30 other scouts from the county.
It was a great evening with a really inspirational speech by Tim
The Scouts built their own crazy golf obstacles on Friday – with each patrol creating a ‘hole’ out of cardboard boxes and other scrap.
Unfortunately, the Wolves obstacle was not in a fit state to be photographed due to some enthusiastic golfing…
Here is the May Newslink – in two parts this month part one and part two; including lots of St George’s day parade photos and a write up about our scouts Masterchef evening.
