We will be holding our second Family Camp at the scout hut 27th-29th of September. The programme will be similar to the July Group Camp; pitching camp Friday evening from 18:30 and flag down midday on Sunday morning.

The beavers slept out under canvas a new experience for some
100 beaver scouts from Sevenoaks district hiked to the 4th Sevenoaks grounds. They then experienced a year in a day, with lots of sun, water, sun lotion and paint plus a dollop of fun and then after a camp fire sleeping in patrol tents in the grounds…
Scouts born between 9/8/1997 and 27/7/2001 have the opportunity to go to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan.
To go you need to be selected (which is quite a fun process in itself) and then join in quite a lot of fund-raising (if you want to go for free), but it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Take a look at the attached letter and form.
Applications must be received the end of term.

The scouts had an evening as rocket engineers on Friday, with patrols building and then firing water-powered rockets.
Each patrol built three rockets and then competed on accuracy (the target was a paddling pool) and distance. In the event the competitions were forgotten in the rush to fire their rockets. Some of the rockets travelled over 60m (and off into the woods) – I think we will be finding them over the coming months as we do tree work. Continue reading Rockets Away!

The group held its first quiz night on Saturday with twelve teams competing for glory. In the end four teams finished within a few points of the lead, with “the Minecrafters” narrowly taking the victory. The winning score was an impressive 49.5 out of 65.
Update 1 (2013-07-01):
Some of the scouts made cakes for the quiz – Matthew’s “Scout cakes” were particularly impressive.
