Today 60 young people (plus siblings and parents!) took part in the 58th JOTA today. We had 24 Beavers, 25 Cubs, 8 Scouts and 3 Explorers talk over the radio airwaves to other Scout groups they also tried out Morse code machines too! Great fun was had by all and a huge thank you goes to the West Kent Amateur Radio Society for spending the whole day with us.
We even managed a few conversations as part of JOTI (Jamboree on the internet), including contacting someone from Borneo and Malta.  We will be a bit more organised on that front next year.
Despite being tested by a series of incidents, we survived a very wet summer camp at Adamswell Scout Camp near Langton Green in August.
On Monday we pitched camp between rainstorms and had dinner cooked and on the table when the by now continuous rain caused the River Gromm running through the site to rise, and rise, and rise, until… Continue reading Scouts Survive Summer Camp→
Last week Pinewood Beavers hit the park to build some dens! The Beavers had great fun building six super dens – one beaver even built her own little fairy den!
Last week the 4th Sevenoaks Pinewood Beavers took to the grassy slopes of Greatness Park to enjoy some grass sledging!
Everyone had great fun including the leaders! In the background whilst waiting their turns the Beavers were fine tuning their circus skills with circus equipment!
The scouts held a crazy camping night at the end of September.
After considering options from hanging a tent from a tree, camping on a rope bridge as well as several involving water, the troop decided to build a ‘camping penthouse’ using their pioneering skills.
The platform was surprisingly stable, but a little bit uncomfortable for daily use.
The sleepover was a first-time sleeping under the stars for five of the scouts, and fortunately the weather was as good as we could have hoped for.
“Every young person deserves an adventure” & that is what 30 4th Sevenoaks Cubs did today at Lower Grange Farm the Kent Scout HQ! Climbing, Zorbing, pedal carting & much more. Thanks to all the parents, leaders and young leaders that gave up their afternoon.
Testing out Human Hungry Hippos was the final activity for Greatness Cubs this term and was thoroughly enjoyed by all cubs, two scouts, and two young leaders. Even one leader had a go too! As well as enjoying themselves, they learnt how to tie and use a bowline and a figure of eight knot.
Further ‘testing’ will take place at Cubs’ Summer Camp.
The beavers enjoyed an introduction to campfire cooking on Wednesday. Alongside the do’s and don’ts, they managed to cook sausages, toast marshmallows, make themselves smores and have an impromptu sing-song.
