Monopoly Run 2023

Today was Monopoly Run “Live”, an event where 8000 players from Scouting and Guiding play a real time game of Monopoly across London.

This year 62 of us from Swift, Chapman and Seal Scout Troops, formed eight teams and ventured into central London to take part.

Eight hours and 38 kms of walking / tube rides / bus journeys, most of our teams had managed to visit every place on the standard Monopoly board.

Seven of our teams ended up in the same game – with the ‘Brave’ team (Nick, Robin, Holly. Caitlin, Clemmie, Lexie and Christopher) taking the crown. The one team out there competing with the public ‘The Influencers’ managed to come second in their game.

This term, we have been…

The Scout Troops haven’t done a particularly good job taking photos of activities this term, however we have been busy scouting!

Games night

The scouts brought in their favourite board games

Zoom Cook-along

Chapman and Swift cooked a chicken chow mien and Sweet and Sour Crispy Chicken care of a Kitchen Sanctuary recipe

New scouts sleepover

A night hike, a visit to the chip shop and sleepover for some of the newer Chapman scouts.

Screen Stars

The scouts spent an evening filming and editing short videos promotional videos. While the scouts had fun, unfortunately none of the videos were fit for public viewing 🤦🥹

Trading Game

The scout’s favourite game where patrols compete to earn the most scout-bucks by showing off their scouting skills.

Pancakes

We had our most successful evening cooking pancakes over scout-made open fires in recent memory. Every patrol lit a reasonable fire and pretty much everyone managed to make an edible pancake.

Coming up

Coming us soon are the Monopoly Run in London, a night-time navigation and sleepover.

Merry Christmas

Christmas Card 2022

Wishing everyone at the group a warm and merry Christmas and a great 2023.

Thank you so much to everyone at the group

  • To the children of all ages for attending meetings and enjoying yourselves
  • To all the parents for helping the young people get to the right place, at the right time, with the right stuff
  • To the leaders for all their organising and patience
  • To the adult volunteers who do so much behind the scenes work to support the leaders, and to keep the site and grounds a safe and enjoyable place to scout.

Christmas Camp at Cudham Shaws

The scout troops held their Christmas ‘Chiller’ Camp at Cudham Shaws Scout Campsite at the weekend.

This year it really was a chiller camp, with cold weather all weekend – getting as low as -4 C on Saturday night.

Friday

As usual, we pitched camp on Friday evening, after getting all the tents up we erected the Christmas tree and tucked into a sausage-in-a-bun. In a foretaste of what was to come, there was definitely a nip in the air as we sat down to eat.

Entertainment for the remainder of the evening was decorating the mess tent and the traditional Christmas Quiz. In a shock, hopefully never-to-be-repeated turn of events, the scouts beat the leaders!

Remembrance Service and Parade

Members of the group attended the Sevenoaks Town Remembrance Day Service held in front of the war memorial at the Vine on Sunday.

We are very proud of all of the young people that came and remembered today, especially our newest section Squirrel Scouts aged 4 and 5 years old. Over 75 of our members paraded along the road from The Drive.

We were joined by members of the 1st and the 10th scout groups, plus members of Explorers.

Fantastic Fireworks on Friday

We held our annual “Fireworks Extravaganza and Bonfire” last week – bigger and better than ever!

We have been working hard with suppliers to make our food even better than previous years and we were very pleased with everyone’s reaction.

If you came to the event and would like to give us some feedback (positive or things we could improve on) please get in contact.

JOTI 2022

Our scouts took part in JOTI this year, with an evening of connecting with other scouts from around the world.

We spoke to scouts in Namibia, the Philippines, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, Belgium, Turkey, Costa Rica, USA and Israel, as well as lots of scouts from elsewhere in England.

It looks like there were some benefits to spending the best part of a year communicating with friends and family online, the scouts took to webchat like a dream 😎⌨️
