Wishing everyone at the group a warm and merry Christmas and a great 2023.
Thank you so much to everyone at the group
To the children of all ages for attending meetings and enjoying yourselves
To all the parents for helping the young people get to the right place, at the right time, with the right stuff
To the leaders for all their organising and patience
To the adult volunteers who do so much behind the scenes work to support the leaders, and to keep the site and grounds a safe and enjoyable place to scout.
This year it really was a chiller camp, with cold weather all weekend – getting as low as -4 C on Saturday night.
Friday
As usual, we pitched camp on Friday evening, after getting all the tents up we erected the Christmas tree and tucked into a sausage-in-a-bun. In a foretaste of what was to come, there was definitely a nip in the air as we sat down to eat.
Entertainment for the remainder of the evening was decorating the mess tent and the traditional Christmas Quiz. In a shock, hopefully never-to-be-repeated turn of events, the scouts beat the leaders!
Members of the group attended the Sevenoaks Town Remembrance Day Service held in front of the war memorial at the Vine on Sunday.
We are very proud of all of the young people that came and remembered today, especially our newest section Squirrel Scouts aged 4 and 5 years old. Over 75 of our members paraded along the road from The Drive.
We were joined by members of the 1st and the 10th scout groups, plus members of Explorers.
Our scouts took part in JOTI this year, with an evening of connecting with other scouts from around the world.
We spoke to scouts in Namibia, the Philippines, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, Belgium, Turkey, Costa Rica, USA and Israel, as well as lots of scouts from elsewhere in England.
It looks like there were some benefits to spending the best part of a year communicating with friends and family online, the scouts took to webchat like a dream 😎⌨️
Cubs from the 4th & 9th hiked from Shoreham. They took in the view from Meenfield wood and then went on to meet Beavers at the Otford Solar System.
Next they stopped for chips on their way to Mill Lane followed by a campfire! Everyone slept outside with many Cubs hammocking or bivouacking for the first time all under our fantastic outside shelter. Many first nights away were achieved.
Providing fun and adventure for boys and girls 4 years old and up.
